LABORIE LC05/Distribution Naïve (2008) This is a pleasing French production of music by an obscure composer Alexandre Pierre François BOËLY (1785-1858) whose music places him at the point between The programme comprises a trio, a quartet, a sextet (reduction from a symphony) and three Melodies with chamber organ accompaniment, which break the sequence and give an opportunity for Christophe Coin (the only musician common to both groups) to have some solo cello spots. The Quatuor Mosaïques is on fine form and the larger group is no less polished. There is a page of manuscript, the texts are only in French and the whole presentation is stylish, with the ageing composer teaching his little niece. But this is a specialist production, not really for general collectors. Peter Grahame Woolf
