Knut Vaage Someone is going to come

Libretto by Knut Vaage, in consultation with Jon Fosse

Aurura CD: ACD 5043 (UK distributor New Notes)

Siri Torjesen: soprano (SHE); Ketil Hugaas: bass baritone (HE) Nils Harald Sødal: tenor (THE MAN)
BIT20 Ensemble/Opera Vest/Ingar Bergby

A compact and evocative one act opera, which carries a powerful punch, by Knut Vaage (b. 1961) one of Norway's leading composers. It evokes a remote seaside location with no near neighbours (pictured) ruminates on the self-deceiving longing for solitude and togetherness of a couple without a history; ideal for CD's "the mental theatre stage".

Is he who will come real? Whatever, it makes a riveting drama in your imagination and its one hour duration is exactly right.

Fine singing by the three soloists and of the libretto's presentation in Norwegian and English. The chamber ensemble sounds larger than its eight players, who should have been named. Recommended.
