Farrenc: Piano Trios Nos. 1 & 3, Sextet Op. 40

Linos ensemble

CPO 777256-2 [TT 1 19]

Louise Farrenc (1804-1875) was a distinguished composer of classical-romantic music, including orchesral scores. The difficulties encountered by women composers at the time caused the Sextet to be written as a compromise, better than as a symphony which would not easily get performed and disseminated.

She was also active as a publisher of piano music from earlier times, the Trésor des pianistes in 23 volumes accompanied with corresponding recitals.

This is excellent music of its time, and the trios especially should be welcome in recital programmes. Alert sensitive performances by these Bremen based musicians, and well recorded in association with Radio Bremen.
