Vivaldi Concertos Avie - AV2178 An English group tackling Vivaldi in France which has nothing to fear from Italian rivals. Vivaldi was involved in both the dissemination of the French style in Italy and that of the Italian style in France. Adrian Chandler founded La Serenissima with fellow students at the Royal College of Music in London, and the members are all busily active on the British musical scene, members of many orchestras and ensembles. This is a terrific disc, full of variety, vivacity and flair. The presentation is lavish, with pertinent notes by Chandler and full information, including names of all the players and their instruments, and attributions to the many involved in its preparation, including to the hotel in Winchester which put them all up for the sessions at the Hospital of St Cross there in January. A real winner, which will also encourage exploration of La Serenissima's earlier releases. Peter Grahame Woolf
