Bach Magnificat & Stravinsky Mass

English Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra and Trinity Boys Choir & soloists/Leonard Bernstein

Director Brian Large

Ideale Audience DVD 3085308

This is a moving and treasurable release of an English Bach Festival concert in London, 1977.

Historical performance indeed ! Normal orchestra with modern winds and plenty of vibrato, but with the always intensely communicative Bernstein at the helm, who cares?

For older listeners who attended Lina Lalandi's Festival (Bach + cutting edge contemporary music - “one of the biggest misnomers in musical history" [The Independent July 1993]) this will be evocative and bring back treasured memories.

The filming and sound recording are excellent. Recommended most strongly.
