Bloch Mass etc Naxos 8.572489 A strange disc which undermines its exotic possibilities with blandness. It features a male soprano (higher than a counter-tenor) who is multi-tracked up to seven times, and an assortment of peculiar instruments (ondes Martenot, glassharmonica, musical saw and cristal Baschet) with which the Polish composer/musician Thomas Bloch has made his living. The Mass (originally released by Dux in Poland) was orchestrated by a famous orchestrator, & so it goes on... Wasted opportunities. Not recommended. Peter Grahame Woolf |
