Eton Choirbook (Tonus Peregrinus) Magnificat a 4 William, Monk of Stratford Nesciens mater Plainchant Browne, J: Stabat Mater a 6 Davy, R: St Matthew Passion a 4 Kellyk: Magnificat a 5 first recording Lambe: Nesciens mater a 5 Wylkynson: Jesus autem transiens/Credo in Deum Naxos: 8.572840 [recorded 2011, St Albans Martyr, Holborn) A very rewarding compilation of music from "one of the greatest surviving glories of pre-reformation England" [Antony Pitts]. Music for 4 parts to an amazing 13 in Wylkynson's Jesus autem transiens/Credo in Deum. Excellent annotation by Antony Pitts, and superbly recorded with Geoff Miles' special "elephant ears" microphone. A disc to play again and again; do not be put off by its seeming esotericity.
