Morgan Szymanski (guitar)

Blackheath Halls, 25 February 2007

Morgan Symanski is a very young and smart performer with great stage presence.

He began his Blackheath Sundays guitar recital with the demanding Grand Overture op.61 by Giuliani. He accomplished this piece very well and seemed very much in control, not only of the guitar but also his audience.

He continued with two compositions written for him by Simone Iannarelli. Both Valzer Brillante and Cancion para Beatriz contained imaginative writing for guitar incorporating techniques suited to the instrument whilst remaining melodic in thought. Morgan portrayed these works sensitively and with elegance. (They are included in his well recorded and recommendable CD The Unicorn in the Garden; see and listen at http://www.guitarcds.net/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=938)

Morgan's announcements throughout the programme were very informative and interesting, and helped to create a strong rapport with audience.

He included works by Piazzolla, Barrios, Tarrega and Albeniz, each given a fine performance and very well received by the large Sunday morning audience.
